Maison de Rêverie is owned by Kathy and her husband David. The shoppe was conceptualized and is run by Kathy with the inspired assistance of Norma, two dear friends who decided long ago that today’s lifestyle is a bit too hurried and driven. Their thoughts harken back to those treasured times when a hand written letter was a joy to receive, and an even greater pleasure to compose to loved ones near and far. Times when a sip of tea served in a china cup poured from a steaming pot was the prelude to rewarding conversation, while enjoying the linen napkins on the table and delighting in the scent of fragrant blooms placed in the small vase next to the cookies. These times allowed one to curl up with a favorite afghan and pet cat or dog, while settling in for an hour’s escape, lost in the pages of a leather bound book. There were no e-mails to check, no intrusive vibrating cell phones, or automatic telephone calls leaving unsolicited urgent messages on a stranger’s line. Television was non-existent, and one had time to journal, garden, bake, paint, sew, read a story to a child, or to play a beloved piece of music on an instrument. A walk was a daily activity for rumination, amusement or purposeful destination, not a timed aerobic workout before proceeding with further chores. Dinner was served in the dining room as family gathered together for the evening while enjoying simple foods lovingly prepared by women using their well-worn cook books. Occasions of life were celebrated with grace and thoughtful preparation, including one’s dress. Gone? Yes. Forgotten? Mais non!
